Xiaohan Zhang submits commitment to COP15 of CBD
On March 31, 2021, Zhang Xiaohan, on behalf of the Climate Action SDG Laboratory (CASLab), submitted the commitment to the 15th Conference of the parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
Xiaohan Zhang submitted the commitment to the Sharm El Sheikh to Kunming Action Agenda for Nature and People (Action Agenda) at https://www.cbd.int/action-agenda/contributions/action/?action-id=6052d85c9372920001b1b370. The Conference of the Parties in decision XIV/34, decided to “encourage indigenous peoples and local communities and all relevant organizations and stakeholders including the private sector to consider developing, prior to the fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties, biodiversity commitments that may contribute to an effective post-2020 global biodiversity framework and to make such information available as a contribution to the Sharm El-Sheikh to Kunming Action Agenda for Nature and People”.
Xiaohan Zhang interest in the work of the Convention on Biological Diversity and its Nagoya Protocol on Access to Benefit-Sharing and the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. In this context, she carried out a project in Kenya to protect biodiversity based on traditional knowledge. The commitment she submitted this time is based on the results of this project. In the future, the project will continue in Kenya to protect the biodiversity, genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge of local communities.
